The New York Times and other corporate media outlets have egg on their face after fact checks proved that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has, in fact, been politicized against conservatives and supporters of President-elect Donald Trump.
Not too many days ago, it was publicly revealed that a FEMA employee ordered relief workers in Hurricane Milton-ravaged Florida to avoid helping people whose homes had Trump flags or other Trump paraphernalia visible on the property. Democratic lawmakers, the Times and others claimed this is all just “misinformation,” but fact checks have since determined that the claims are true.
Hilariously, the Times conducted its own “fact check” that determined the claim of FEMA “neglecting areas that had voted for Republicans” to be “false,” only to then have real fact checks determine the opposite.
“This incident sheds light on the broader implications of the fight against online ‘misinformation,’ particularly how premature labeling of claims can potentially suppress legitimate grievances and criticisms that later prove to have been based on some truth, something that happened often in 2020 and the Covid era,” writes Dan Frieth for Reclaim the Net.
“The controversy surrounding a FEMA employee who allegedly directed a relief team to ignore homes displaying support for then-Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has sparked outrage and demands for a thorough investigation by legislators.”

The FEMA employee in question who told those below her to discriminate against Trump supporters has since been fired from the federal relief and aid agency. Its administrator, Deanne Criswell, has also condemned the fired employee’s actions, calling them a “clear violation of FEMA’s core values & principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation.”
It is nobody’s job while working in any public capacity to discriminate against any American over politics, in other words. Under previous administrations, this apparently became the norm at FEMA, but this is now changing under Trump.
“More than 22,000 FEMA employees every day adhere to FEMA’s core values and are dedicated to helping people before, during and after disasters, often sacrificing time with their own families to help disaster survivors,” Criswell continued.
It is precisely because we still have something resembling free speech, at least online, that this FEMA fiasco even came to light. Those behind the discrimination are part of the same cabal that wants to stamp out free speech using claims about the spread of “misinformation” when they themselves are the ones spreading it with their lies.
It was misinformation for the Times, for instance, to claim that FEMA operates honorably without respect to politics. The same goes for every disgruntled Democrat politician whose hatred for Trump has become a blinding light impairing proper public service.
All of this is slated to change under Trump, though it remains to be seen if the president-elect will be successful with his agenda. Trump needs people around him who are able and willing to fight the status quo no matter the cost, and to not be on the dole of the establishment that is fighting tooth and nail to keep it intact.
“Katrina peeps were shooting at government helicopters from the roofs demanding they leave their land (aka no lucrative real estate projects for Cheney),” one of our own wrote in a comment about how the politicization of FEMA goes both ways depending on which party is in office.
“He snooped around, looked at piles of trash, and left. No assistance for years.”
