Responding to President Trump’s recent declaration of a national emergency over the situation at our southern border, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi issued a threat to the nation about future Democratic presidents whom she says might try to declare their own national emergencies over “gun violence.” But the data that she and other Leftists often use to claim that mass shootings are a problem unique to the United States is completely fake – as is the data typically presented as “evidence” of so-called climate change, by the way.
Citing statistics put forth by the U.S. Department of Education, Democrats like Pelosi are now claiming that there were 235 mass shootings in the U.S. just in 2018 – a number that they say is far higher compared to other parts of the world where gun ownership is illegal. But NPR recently decided to investigate this figure further, only to discover that a mere 11 of these alleged mass shootings could be verified as having actually happened.
What the Department of Education recognizes as “gun violence,” it turns out, includes not only real-life shootings, but also potentially fake shootings that someone might have heard about, and that may or may not have actually taken place. In other words, official gun violence statistics, as presented by the federal government and parroted ad nauseam by the fake news media, are 100 percent fake.
As we reported late last year, much of the confusion about actual gun violence statistics is also the product of fake news being spread by an anti-gun zealot named Adam Lankford, who works as a professor at The University of Alabama.
Lankford is infamous for publishing a completely bogus study claiming that since 1966, there have been 90 “mass public shooters” in the United States, and that this is “more than any other country.” But nobody has ever been able to verify Lankford’s claims because he refuses to present the metrics and design with which he came to this conclusion.
John Stossel from WND.com, however, set out to verify Lankford’s claims himself, and found that Lankford largely fudged the numbers to make his “study” say what he wanted it to say. While Lankford has doubled down on the claim that there have only been 202 mass shootings outside of the U.S., Stossel found that the real number is closer to 3,000.
“It turns out that not only did the U.S. not have the most frequent mass shootings, it was No. 62 on the list, lower than places like Norway, Finland and Switzerland,” Stossel writes.
“There was also no relationship between the rate of gun ownership in different countries and the rate of mass shootings … If journalists had just demanded Lankford explain his study methods before touting his results, his ‘more mass shootings’ myth would never have spread.”
We also recently reported that another popular source of gun violence data, Education Week, is also spreading fake data about gun violence across America.
As it turns out, Education Week thinks that “mass shootings” somehow include ordinary schoolyard fights and other on-campus scuffles that have nothing to do with guns. You can chalk it all up to the Leftists’ relentless and desperate effort to denigrate guns to the point that the American populace eventually caves and gives up its precious Second Amendment rights, all in order to “protect the children.”
“Government’s desire to control us – and to lie to make its case – is the real emergency,” Stossel says, warning law-abiding, patriotic Americans to always “remember the wisdom of the Second Amendment.”
